Mark & Sharon wanted a large water butt to supply rainwater for their flowers & plants in Spring.

The main problem was in the siting. It needed to be close to the area where the plants were grown, as well as next to a convenient downpipe from the roof gutters. Luckily a small area was available along the side path to the property, where a 650 litre upright tank would just fit. The tank was duly installed, it didnt encroach to far on the path and is now full with around 144 watering cans of rainwater, ready for next spring and summer.

Charles and Babette had a rainwater collection system on the back of their garage which had been working well for around 14 years. It was now time to replace it however as the plastic pipework was corroded with some leakage when the water butts were full.

A new system was designed using a new 1000 litre tank, an increase in capacity over the old system of around 400 litres. The previous setup had been fed from the back of the garage roof only, so it was decided a front gutter would be linked in too, thus doubling the roof supply area.

Firstly the old water butts were removed and recycled, then a concrete base with a brick plinth was built. New gutters were fitted to the the garage, linked together, then connected to a filter collector which would divert the water and feed the tank placed on the plinth.

Finally a soak-away was installed ensuring excess overflow water drained cleanly away without flooding the surroundings
