First rainwater limpet fitted

Use the rain was pleased to fit its first rainwater limpet, especially developed for cast and aluminium gutter systems at the Oxford University press building Oxford.

Here is a testimonial as sent by their facilities manager Amanda Cherry

"There was a  great opportunity to collect rain water from the vast roof of the building for the area that had no means of a water supply for the planting in the quad, I contacted Matt at UsetheRain who came up with a design and unobtrusive location for a tank which he implemented without disruption.  The tank has been in situ for a couple of weeks and soon filled up and I am absolutely delighted with the results and will now have water for the plants within the area through the summer months.

As the tank was a huge success I will be looking to install more on site in the future and will certainly be contacting UsetheRain again as Matt was so professional and has some great ideas and concepts."

New Product Development

First launched and demonstrated at Newbury show, Use the Rain has engineered a device for diverting rainwater to a storage tank from cast iron gutter systems.

We've called it the rain limpet because of the way it attaches onto the iron down-pipe. A hole is cut in the pipe and the rain limpet is glued in place, leaving the pipe and gutters for the most part undisturbed. As with many rainwater diverters once your tank is full, excess water is channelled back through the rain Limpet where it flows on down to the soak-away, thus ensuring no floods from overflowing tanks.

Use the Rain at the eco-fairs

Using rainwater saved from your roof instead of mains tap water, helps go a little way towards a more sustainable lifestyle and is an environmentally responsible approach to living.

With that in mind in 2010 we've attended three local eco fairs, Oxford, Faringdon and Cholsey, as well as having a stand at Newbury show.We were unfortunate to miss Abingdons' fair, being a bit late in booking, but I still managed to get along to look at the stalls and exhibits on the day. Must say, was impressed with the attendance and enthusiasm. Use the Rain will certainly be aiming to attend next year if possible. Meanwhile we'll be seeking to form links with as many eco groups as we can in 2011 and will keep you informed of the up & coming shows we attend.
